Armoury

The Badge of the Company is based on known devices for English, French and German guilds in the late medieval and early renaissance period.

Exemplar devices are carpenters and coopers from the livery companies of London website.  The significant charge of the London company of Carpenters is a set of compasses (dividers).  These were heraldic symbols of mastery, particularly of a skill.  Fiore dei Liberi, in his fighting manual gave a compass to his Lynx, symbol of the mastery of fighting skill.

A suggested blazon is “quarterly azure and gules, a carpenter’s axe or between 4 compasses in saltire argent”.

A version of this has been roughly evaluated, and is awaiting submission.  The Provost Secretary has redrawn the submission and present the image to the membership for commentary.
